The operation of an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS or drone) within the vicinity of an airport is regulated by the FAA, as well as Kentucky law. Further, CVG Rules and Regulations prohibit UAS from taking off or landing from the airport without prior permission. Failure to comply may subject the operator to prosecution.

To ensure UAS operate safely in the airport environment, the FAA has created UAS facility maps that define acceptable flight altitudes. Prior to flight, both commercial (Part 107) and recreational operators must receive approval through the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability System (LAANC). Further, any flights requested in “0” flight blocks or at altitudes greater than the flight block allows must obtain authorization through FAA Drone Zone. To ensure the safety and security of those working and operating at CVG, it is requested that UAS operators contact CVG for any flights that will take place in a “0” flight grid. Requests can be sent to drone@cvgairport.com. As a reminder, FAA airspace authorization must be received through Drone Zone, and an active Certificate of Authorization (COA) must be in hand prior to flight.

• A clear "status" indicator that informs the operator whether it is safe to fly or not (For example, it shows flying in the Special Flight Rules Area around Washington, D.C. is prohibited.)
• Informative, interactive maps with filtering options
• Information about controlled airspace, special use airspace, critical infrastructure, airports, national parks, military training routes and temporary flight restrictions
• The ability to check whether it is safe to fly in different locations by searching for a location or moving the location pin
